Celebrating 12 Years of ACR Training Excellence!

Steve Walker: Managing Director
We often hear the question, “Where does the time go?” and the saying, “Time flies when you are having fun!” Both perfectly describe the last 12 years at ACR Refrigeration Training.
Looking back, it’s hard to believe how quickly the last 12 years have passed. So, where has the time gone? And were we having fun? Absolutely!
Founded in 2013 by current Managing Director Steve Walker, M.Inst.R., our company is proud to celebrate a 12-year milestone this year. We have achieved steady year-on-year growth by keeping class sizes small and never letting company interests overshadow the quality of training provided. This learner-focused ethos has guided our approach from the very beginning and remains central to our ongoing success.
At ACR Refrigeration Training, our core belief is that training should always prioritize the needs of learners.
Having witnessed some seriously inadequate practices by both newly qualified and experienced engineers, we recognized that change was needed. Our goal became clear: to establish a practical training site where both newcomers and existing engineers could be trained to the standard our industry deserves. For us, that journey began with training operatives in the safe handling of refrigerants, commonly known as F-Gas Training as improper handling of fluorinated gases (F-Gas) can result in safety hazards and environmental harm.
We decided to buck the trend by taking the time to assess the needs of each individual candidate and tailoring their training accordingly. We knew this would lead to fewer places available per course, but ultimately it would enable us to provide a greater degree of one-to-one training to every learner.
Having teamed up with, City & Guilds and BESA Academy, and undergoing some stringent acceptance processes, ACR Training gained approved centre status with both of the country’s leading awarding bodies to deliver refrigeration and air conditioning skills including F-Gas & Hydrocarbon (Flammable) Refrigerants training and to stay abreast of the latest safe working practices and procedures within the RAC industry.
Recently, with the introduction of heat pumps as primary heating systems and a marked increase in air conditioning systems that are being installed to domestic properties, the RAC industry is experiencing an influx of engineers from other trades and engineering backgrounds looking to upskill to include heat pump installations and maintenance to add to their portfolios. It is absolutely crucial that they have access to the best levels of industry training available, and when it comes to learning new skills, it does not get much better than one-to-one training.
ACR’s One to One training model stands apart by offering personalised instruction tailored precisely to each learner’s experience and goals. Rather than a generic approach, our trainers assess individual needs and customise practical exercises and support, enabling learners to gain a strong grasp of subject knowledge. As a result, participants emerge empowered—confident not only in their understanding but also in their ability to put new skills to immediate use in real-world scenarios.
